জেনেভায় মানবাধিকার সংলাপে বাংলাদেশী আইনজীবীর অংশগ্রহণ

জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার হাইকমিশন কার্যালয়ে অনুষ্ঠিত মানবাধিকার বিষয়ক সংলাপে বাংলাদেশি মানবাধিকার আইনজীবী শাহানূর ইসলাম অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

৯ জুন (শুক্রবার) সুইজারল্যাণ্ডের জেনেভায় অবস্থিত জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার হাই কমিশনের সদর দপ্তর উইলসন প্যালেসে তিন ঘন্টাব্যাপী সংলাপটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

ফ্রান্স প্রেসিডেন্ট কর্তৃক প্রবর্তিত ম্যারিইয়ান ইনিশিয়েটিভ ফর হিউম্যান রাইটস ডিফেন্ডার বিজয়ী হিসেবে সংলাপে শাহানূর ইসলাম অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

সংলাপে ফ্রান্স মানবাধিকার এম্ব্বাসেডর ডেলফিন বরিন, জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার কাউন্সিল এর ব্রাঞ্চ ইন চার্জ প্রধান এরিক টিসটৌনেট, জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকার সংক্রন্ত ট্রিটি বডির ব্রাঞ্চ ইন চার্জ প্রধান ইব্রাহিম সালামা, জাতিসংঘ মানবাধিকারকর্মী বিষয় স্পেশাল রাপোর্টিয়ারের সচিব সফি হেল উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

সংলাপে জাতিসংঘে মানবাধিকার ম্যাকানিজমের কার্যক্রম সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হয়।

আডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম তার বক্তব্যে বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান মানবাধিকার পরিস্থিতি সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করেন।

সংলাপে অন্যান্যদের মধ্যে ইরাক, সিরিয়া, আফগানিস্তান, মালি, ক্যামেরুন, ইরান, বাহরাইন, উগাণ্ডা, পেরু, কলম্বিয়া, ভেনেজুয়েলা, এলসালভডর ও রাশিয়ার মানবাধিকারকর্মীরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

Bangladeshi Lawyer Shahanur Islam Participates in Human Rights Dialogue in Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland - Bangladeshi human rights lawyer Shahanur Islam actively participated in a dialogue on human rights held at the office of the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights.

The three-hour-long dialogue took place on Friday, June 9, at Wilson Palace, the headquarters of the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.

Shahanur Islam had the privilege to attend the dialogue as the winner of the Marian Initiative for Human Rights Defender, a prestigious award launched by the French President.

The event witnessed the presence of prominent figures including Delphine Borione, the France Human Rights Ambassador, Eric Tistounet, the Head of the Branch in Charge of the UN Human Rights Council, Ibrahim Salama, the Head of the Branch in Charge of the UN Human Rights Treaty Body, and Sophie Helle, the Secretary of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders.

During the dialogue, the participants engaged in detailed discussions regarding the activities of human rights mechanisms within the United Nations. The primary focus was on addressing pressing global human rights issues.

Advocate Shahanur Islam seized the opportunity to shed light on the current human rights situation in Bangladesh through his speech, emphasizing the need for justice and equality. He brought attention to the specific challenges faced by Bangladesh in ensuring the protection of human rights for all its citizens.

The dialogue also witnessed the active participation of human rights activists from various countries, including Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Mali, Cameroon, Iran, Bahrain, Uganda, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, and Russia.

The diverse representation underscored the collective commitment to address human rights violations and strive for a world where fundamental rights are safeguarded for everyone.
