Transfer of third gender leader to Panchagarh Jail

Finally, Thakurgaon's alleged third gender guru ma (transgender leader) Ruby Begum alias Rubel has been transferred from Thakurgaon Jail to Panchagarh District Jail.

Tuhin Kanti Khan of Thakurgaon District Jail confirmed this and said that there is a system of imprisonment for male and female prisoners in this jail. However, there is no accommodation for members of the third gender, so Ruby alias Rubel has been sent to Panchagarh Jail with the permission of the authorities.

Police arrested Ruby alias Rubel from the third gender community village on Sunday night on the charge of selling 20 houses of Guchchagram. When he was produced in court on Monday, the judge ordered him to be sent to Thakurgaon jail after the hearing. Then the police took him to jail at noon.

However, the prison authorities were embarrassed about him. Later on that afternoon Hijra leader Ruby was transferred to Panchagarh Jail on the orders of the concerned authorities.

Kamal Hossain, OC of Thakurgaon police station, said that Hasan Ali, deputy assistant officer of Nargun Union Land Office, filed a case for selling government houses as a plaintiff. He (Ruby) was arrested in this case.

Nargun UP Chairman Serekul Islam said that in 2019, the government built tin houses for 30 members of this community in West Nargun Iksu Farm area. After that they were also given semi-finished houses under the shelter scheme. But the tin houses were empty. Suddenly the houses disappeared.

Executive Officer of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Abu Taher. Samsuzzaman said that selling government houses is a criminal offence. A three-member investigation team headed by Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Tanjila Tasnim has been formed in this regard.
